Julia Sloth-Nielsen appointed as Professor
On 1 August 2013, Prof. Dr. Julia Sloth-Nielsen was appointed as part-time Professor of Children’s Rights in the Developing World at Leiden Law School.
She joins the Department of Child Law and will work closely with Prof. Dr Ton Liefaard, UNICEF Chair in Children Rights in children’s rights research and education. Professor Sloth-Nielsen will specifically focus on the meaning of children’s rights in low-income countries, among others on the African continent.
Professor Sloth-Nielsen is also Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa and vice chair of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. She has worked extensively on various children’s rights issues, particularly in the context of Africa. She organizes, together with Professor Liefaard, the first edition of the Leiden Summer School on International Children's Rights that will be held in Leiden and The Hague from 26-30 August 2013.
