- The Advisory Council of the E.M. Meijers Institute was established at the start of 2004 and the first meeting took place on 12 February 2004. The Board is charged with advising the management of the Research Institute on key aspects of the research policy to be followed. The Council meets in general four times a year. The members of the Council are appointed for a three year term by the Faculty Board, with the approval of the Faculty Council. As well as this Advisory Council for research, the Faculty also has its own Faculty Advisory Council.
- The key aspects of the Faculty’s research policy relate, for example, to research programming, internationalisation, quality monitoring, PhD candidate training, participation in research schools and any other matters which will prescribe research now and in the future. In addition, the Council may make recommendations relating to the operational activities of the Board, the directors and the staff of the Institute. The Council meets in the presence of the members of the Board of the Meijers Institute.
- In view of the intention expressed by the Council to be more involved in research, a combined approach has been adopted for the meeting structure, which incorporates a discussion of policy issues, followed by a presentation on one of the six Faculty research programmes.
