- Mr. A.H.J. Schmidt read Dutch Law at the Universiteit Utrecht and has been working at the department of Law and IT (later eLaw@Leiden) since 1985. Since 1988 he has been a Senior lecturer. In 1987 he published his thesis “Pallas ex machine” where he shows that knowledge systems are superior to static models when describing ministerial policy regarding conditional release out of imprisonment in the 1970s. Schmidt is chairman of the committee of the foundation Law and IT in Leiden, member of the university committee ICT & Education, fellow of the E.M. meijers Institute. His attention is aimed at interdisciplinary problems of law and IT. Since September 1st 2003 Aernout Schmidt has been appointed as full professor of law and IT.
