Leiden Law Courses (LLC)

- The Europa Institute offers five courses in the LLC-programme.
- Introduction to EU Law
- Introduction to the Law of the European Union provides students with an overview of the structure and nature of EU law, such as the supremacy of EU law over the national legal orders and the principle of direct effect.
- Introduction to European Competition Law
- Over the years, European Competition Law has almost become a specialisation in itself. This course provides the participants with an opportunity to become familiar with the relevant legislation, case law and practice.
- European Convention of Human Rights
- The course seeks to explore the background and contents of the European Convention of Human Rights and to provide an overview of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
- Equality and Non-Discrimination
- The aim of this course is to give students insight into the issue of how to transpose fundamental legal principles into concrete legal entitlements of citizens. Students will learn about the variety of ways in which this transposition takes place on all levels of jurisdictions (from the United Nations to national governments).
- Basic Course Law of the EU
- Basic Course Law of the European Union aims to provide students with an overview of the most important elements of European Union law. It covers institutional law issues - such as the supremacy of EU law, legal protection and the position of the institutions in the decision making process -, as well as substantive law issues - such as the free movement of persons.
