Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe, fall 2010
Internship at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe, fall 2010

Are you fascinated by European human rights protection, perhaps aspiring to a diplomatic career and looking forward to live abroad for some months? Then take this opportunity to have a look behind the scenes of the Council of Europe.

The Europa Instituut offers an internship at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg for the period of 1 September up until 30 November 2010. The work of the intern consists mainly of preparing, attending and reporting on meetings of the Committee of Ministers, its Rapporteur Groups and sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly. Another important task of the Permanent Representation is to receive (foreign) guests. Furthermore, there will be ample room for the intern to meet staff from all different departments of the Council of Europe as well as to attend hearings at the European Court of Human Rights.

For this internship, we are looking for a highly motivated student with personal affinity with European protection of human rights and demonstrable knowledge thereof. For work purposes it is important that the student speaks both Dutch and English fluently and has a sufficient knowledge of French.

A spacious apartment in the historic city centre of Strasbourg is provided for. All costs (including housing) will be at the intern’s own expenses, but the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers an allowance and the intern may apply for the International Study Fund (LISF) of the Leids Universitair Fonds (LUF).

Are you interested in this internship and available in the abovementioned period? Please send an email to Nelleke Koffeman: n.r.koffeman@law.leidenuniv.nl before the 1st of April 2010. Please include your motivation as well as an updated curriculum vitae.
