Dr. Koos van der Bruggen works as a senior researcher at the Department of International Public Law of the University of Leiden. He participates in the NWO-project the United Nations and the Evolution of Global Values. He also works for the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he is developing a code of conduct for (bio)scientists in connection with the increasing threat of the use of biological weapons. Koos van der Bruggen studied political science (specializing in international relations) at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, and obtained his doctorate, on the morality of nuclear deterrence, at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has been working at the Rathenau Institute, an institute that devotes resources to any technological or scientific development which could have morally and politically relevant consequences for society. Dr. van der Bruggen worked there as programme coordinator, and dealt with biomedical technology (cloning, genetics) and military technology.
