Vacancy

The Economics Department of Leiden Law School offers a broad program of courses in economics to students at Leiden University, and especially its Faculty of Law. Its research focuses on economic analysis of social policies and taxation, law and economics, and international economics.  

The Economics Department invites candidates for a  

PhD fellowship in Economics (8-134)  

This concerns a full-time (38 hours per week) position for the period of 6 years, of which two thirds is reserved for research and one third is reserved for teaching.

The research will preferably be part of the Research Program “Reform of Social Regulation”, which deals with the design and effects of social protection programs. In consultation with professors Kees Goudswaard and Koen Caminada, the successful candidate may propose and design his or her own specific topic. The research will have to result in a dissertation.

The teaching will focus on seminars, and supervising thesis’s and essays. The fellowship does not require teaching experience, but a teaching certificate has to be concluded during the first year of the appointment. 

The successful candidate:
  • has completed a masters in economics or a masters in another program with a substantial number of courses in economics (with good results);
  • has a proven interest in the proposed subject of economic aspects of social policies;
  • is available to teach in the courses offered by the Economics Department;
  • is a team player.  

We offer:
  • The position will be for 2 years initially. Subject to successful evaluation after the second and the fourth year, the position can be renewed for two periods of two years;
  • Salary and employee-conditions will be according to the Collective Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities;
  • A starting salary of € 2,300 (gross). After successful evaluations, the salary can be increased stepwise to € 2,916 (gross) in the final (sixth) year.
  • Good terms of employment according to the “CAO”
  • A stimulating working environment within the Economics Department and in the interdisciplinary team of the “Reform of Social Regulation” Program.
