- Leiden - Law School Research Programmes
- The six research programmes are:
1. Securing the rule of law in a world of multilevel jurisdiction
2. Issues concerning private law
3. Reform of social regulation
4. Limits of Tax jurisdiction
5. Criminal Justice
6. Social Cohesion, multiculturalism and globalisation
Fellows and doctoral candidates from the Leiden Law School carry out cross-border research in these programmes. All doctoral candidates are appointed within the programmes. Sometimes researchers from elsewhere are also involved in the research projects / programmes, as either guests or visiting researcher. The research within these programmes is characterised by exploring the limits of the law. Fundamental moral values such as, for instance, human rights, set limits to the law, and these limits are being explored. In addition, Leiden Law School research is cross-border in the sense that it crosses national boundaries (comparative law) and disciplines both within and outside of the law (multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary). The responsibility for the co-ordination and progress of the various research programmes lies with the Research Board of the Leiden Law School, together with the Graduate School of Legal Studies. Each of the programmes has a co-ordinator who is made available for 0.1 FTE to shape the programme and to promote mutual co-operation among the researchers.
